Question:

How do I remove and reinstall the bearings on the slide for the Titan Model 10 Surgomatic for drum brakes.

Thanks for letting us help Sue. Once you have the inner slide removed from your Titan Model 10 actuator, you should be able to access the top, bottom, and side bearing pads for removal. If the actuator is older or has accumulated dirt, rust, or debris around the bearings, they may be fairly difficult to get out. The openings in the actuator housing are shaped to help retain the bearing pads, so they won't necessarily just pull straight out. I'd recommend using a small flat-head screwdriver and needle-nose pliers to work them loose. You may need to deform or collapse the old bearing pad inward from inside the housing, then grab it with the pliers and carefully pry or pull it through the opening. Since you're replacing the bearings anyway, damaging the old pads during removal isn't a concern.

Once everything is removed, you'll have a total of six top/bottom bearing pads and eight side bearing pads to replace. For the top and bottom, you'll need the Bearing - Top & Bottom for Dexter Model 10 Actuators # T1020900. The side bearings use a thinner profile. The correct replacement is the Bearing for Dexter Model 6 Actuator # T1242700, which is also used in this location on the Model 10. I'm including several images from the actuator instructions below, including the exploded parts diagram, corresponding part numbers, and reassembly instructions. These should be helpful when positioning the new bearing pads and reinstalling the inner slide.

Before installing the new bearings, I'd also clean the bearing pockets and surrounding surfaces thoroughly so the new pads can seat properly.
