Replacement Kwikee 28 Series RV Step

Updated 09/09/2026 | Published 08/30/2026

Question:

I have a kwikee 902800000 from 2003 that got bent. Is the Kwikee LC3747452 the proper replacement. My current one does not have a door sensor would I need to get the version with the switch and sensor if I dont need to have a sensor, or would my existing switch work. If i need the sensor and ignition is there a wiring diagram or pigtails for those plugs available as I would have to run a new ignition wire for sure. Thanks.

Hey Cory, thanks for getting me the Kwikee number you have. Based on that the correct fit is the part # LC3747452 but since you have an older setup you'd want the part # LC3747453 instead as it comes with the other parts needed to convert what you have to a modern setup. Since what you have now wouldn't wire up to what you have now.

That said if you went with a setup with a door switch your current switch setup without a door switch would work.

Follow-up questions, 1) What is the exact difference between the two step options (it looks like it might be the # LC3747453 adds the switch, a mag sensor and a pig tail)? 2) does the mag sensor and ignition wiring have to be wired for the step to work manually with the switch? I did not fully understand your statement about the current switch setup. 3) If the ignition wiring and mag sensor are not necessary is there an option that includes just the pigtail to connect to the existing switch?

@CoryH LC3747452: step + motor + current control unit LC3747453: same step/motor/controller plus the wiring/adapter components and magnetic door switch needed for a complete/new installation The additional parts include the LC369299 magnetic door switch and the appropriate adapter/harness components. That's why LC3747452 is described as the replacement assembly, whereas LC3747453 is the complete assembly. The controller supplied with these steps is designed around automatic door operation. The magnetic switch tells the controller whether the RV door is open or closed. The interior step switch isn't simply a reversing switch that directly sends power to the motor; it changes the controller's automatic behavior. we describe LC3747452 as automatically extending when the RV door opens and retracting when it closes. The ignition input is a separate safety function. It allows the controller to retract the step when the ignition is turned on. I would strongly recommend connecting it when converting the old system. So I wouldn't plan the conversion around eliminating both the door sensor and ignition circuit and operating the new controller solely from your old switch. The current controller wasn't designed as a simple switch-controlled motor. There are individual Kwikee pigtails, but there's an important wrinkle: LC369413 is only a 2-wire motor-to-controller adapter, not the complete RV-side wiring harness you would need to convert your 2003 installation. we describe LC369413 specifically as a 6" two-wire adapter connecting the motor to the controller. The LC3747453 complete assembly includes the 4-way installation pigtail that can be spliced into the RV's existing wiring when the old connector isn't compatible.
