Anti-Rattle Solutions for a Front-Mounted Motorcycle Carrier

Updated 08/27/2026 | Published 08/24/2026

Question:

Hello, I am planning to mount a motorcycle on my trucks front hitch. unfortunately the hitch receiver is way too high and I need to reduce it by ~8" . I am considering either the Patriot Adjustable Hitch Receiver Adapter - 2 Hitches - 11 Rise/ - 7K Part Number: PH54FR or the Gen-Y Adjustable Ball Mount - 2 Hitch - 7-1/2 /Rise - 10K. My biggest worry is the play in the connections and therefore the bike moving too much while driving. I contacted GenY if they have any mechanism to prevent the free play in the receiver parts of their product and their reply is to ask ETRAILER if they have any practical advise and product I could use. Same concern applies to the patriot hitch, they have a little bold which prevents rattle but does not look suitable to eliminate all sway as usually done by fitting a U-bracket over any connection. Please let me know what you think. I need 500lbs+ tongue weight for the adapter

Hello Jo, happy to help.

If you're planning on mounting your motorcycle to the front hitch of your truck, then choosing the Patriot Hitches Adjustable Drop Hitch Receiver Adapter - 2" Hitches - 11" Rise/Drop - 7K # PH54FR is a great choice because it comes from the factory with built-in anti rattle bolts which reduce vibration. Also, this adapter has a max tongue weight of 700lbs which comfortably exceeds your 500lb requirement.

Now when it comes to an additional device that you could explore to reduce potential sway even more, I recommend using the Blue Ox Hitch Receiver Immobilizer II - 2" Hitches # BX88224. If you're interested in this part, I recommend first checking your vehicles hitch receiver to ensure there is sufficient clearance around the opening for the Blue Ox's U-Bolts and bracket as some folks have found it doesn't fit if there is a large collar present. If clearance isn't an issue, the combination of the patriot anti-rattle bolts and the Blue Ox Immobilizer will be a strong support system for your front mounted motorcycle.

I'm also very fond of pairing of Gen-Y Adjustable 2-Ball Mount w/ Stacked Receivers - 2" Hitch - 7-1/2" Drop/Rise - 10K # 325-GH-314 with the Blue Ox Hitch Receiver Immobilizer II - 2" Hitches # BX88224. The Gen-Y hitch is going to give you over double the tongue weight capacity at 1,500lbs but doesn't come standard with any factory anti rattle device. Pairing this with the Blue Ox is necessary. I should also note that this hitch gives you a max drop of 7.5" compared to the Patriot at 11".

I recommend going with the Patriot hitch paired with the Blue Ox Immobilizer as this provides you with two independent stabilizing components giving you the peace of mind that your motorcycle is secure.

Is the 8-inch drop mainly to make loading the motorcycle easier, or do you need that much drop for visibility or clearance as well?
