Troubleshooting to Determine if RV Converter is Going Bad
Updated 08/26/2026 | Published 08/21/2026 >
Question:
How can you tell if my 2021 Grand Design 2600 RB Imagine converter is going bad? We noticed when the pump runs the bathroom lights flicker. I put my generator on to recharge the batteries but that only lasted a day. Could you give me a price on a direct replacement and a converter for a lithium battery. We have a 30 amp pull trailer. I have a WF-89545 PEC-GE converter

Hey Keith, it could be your battery that is the issue actually and not the converter but we can test to get a better idea.
With shore power/generator off, measure voltage directly across the battery terminals. A fully charged lead-acid battery should be around 12.6–12.7V at rest.
Plug into shore power or start the generator. Battery voltage should rise as the converter begins charging, typically into roughly the 13.6–14.4V range depending on the converter's charging stage and battery condition.
If voltage stays around the battery's resting voltage (12.x volts) with AC power connected, check the converter's breaker, reverse-polarity fuses and connections. If those are good, the converter itself becomes a strong suspect.
If you determine that you need a new converter the part # WF86FR will be a great option.
Also watch battery voltage when the water pump runs. A large drop points toward a discharged/weak battery or a poor 12V connection.
