Question:

I am looking to replace a 2017 Coleman Mach 13.5k ducted unit with an 18k unit with heat pump. I need to maintain functionality on my propane furnace for very cold conditions in winter but want heat pump for shoulder seasons. What AC/Heat Pump units and distribution, thermostat system do you recommend? Finally what is the current availability of each system? thanks

Hey Roy, the best option for you would be the Furrion Variable Speed Chill Cube part # FR67TQ. This is an 18k variable speed compressor with a heat pump like you are wanting that is currently available right now. So the only caveat is that while the thermostat that comes with this is supposed to be compatible with furnaces we have found that it's not reliably so you would want to retain the thermostat you have now just for the furnace or use a furnace only thermostat like the part # DMC84RR. We've heard they are working on updates for the thermostat that will allow it to be compatible but at this time it's not. How did you like the Coleman?

Thanks, we’re looking at my warranty on the Coleman. It’s been reliable and fairly capable. We are not full timers, pending the wife’s retirement, but we are pretty much four season every other weekend, and in the hot and humid Arkansas summers, the Coleman works hard and doesn’t always get that 20 degree deferential you hear about. 13.5k to 18k may be overkill but I’m okay with that. Finally the wife was never fond of the sound levels. Long answer to short question but I gotta be me! Any thoughts on the 18k Coleman?

@RoyP Totally understandable! The 18k Coleman Everest does look really great but it's not quite available and we don't have any at the time that have a heat pump. I'd assume some will eventually be available but looks like not right out of the gate. The Everest or the Chill Cube will serve you very well though. The sound level will be drastically quieter and you will easily get the 20 degree differential plus more. You'll be able to stay as cool as you like.

Looking at your suggestion it looks to be a non-ducted unit. I am replacing a ducted Coleman unit and think I’d want that to effectively cook the far ends of the coach. I know the Furrion’s ducted and non-ducted units are not the same. I’m I missing a point somewhere, always possible. Thanks for the quick reply. R.
