When replacing gas shock on your vehicle or RV, you will want to make sure you are buying a replacement with the exact same extended length, compressed length, and pounds of force. This information is usually printed on the shock. Lengths are measured from the center of the ball joint used for mounting. If you are planning on installing gas shocks on something for the first time, identifying the shock you need requires fairly complex initial calculations, so be sure to do your research to avoid purchasing a shock that will not fit your application.

Hi, there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a quick look at this 20-inch long gas shock. This is going to replace a worn-out or damaged shock on your RV entry door or maybe a storage door. It is right at 20 inches long. We'll measure that from the middle of our socket on one end to the middle of the socket on the other end.
You can see it is right at that 20 inches when we have it extended. When we have it retracted, it's going to be right about 11 and a half inches, again, from the middle of that socket to the middle of the socket when it's retracted. Those sockets are a straight socket, so there's not going to be any angle to them at all, and they are going to be for your 10 millimeter ball stud so that you can get that fitted on there. This does have a 100-pound force behind it, so it's going to be very strong, allow you to easily open up those storage doors, make sure that they're not going to slam shut on you if a big gust of wind or something we're to come along. You can see that this does have a nice black color to it, so it should blend in nicely and not be very distracting or anything. And it should be very easy to get installed, and just pop it on to the ball sockets or ball studs on each end, and it will allow you to operate that entry door or storage door. That's going to complete our look for today.
Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching.
