Front Receiver Hitch for 2018 Ram Promaster 2500

Updated 08/25/2026 | Published 08/19/2026

Question:

Hello there... I am looking for a big old front bumper with a 500 lb. rated receiver hitch on it and am having a hard time finding one. Im curious if Id be able to mount a front receiver AND a big brush /grille guard as well or would they get in each others way? also thinking I could just do front hitch and then find the front guard I want and have the male part that goes into receiver welded on. Then I could remove the guard and hang dirtbike on the front. Im also not sure which front receiver would fit my rig since its showing me results for pickups and I dont see an option to turn it into a van. Shes a 2018 Ram Promaster 2500. any input or ideas would be great. Thanks!

Hey there!

You’re running into trouble with the fit guide because your 2018 Ram ProMaster 2500 is quite a bit different up front than a Ram 2500 pickup. Unfortunately, we don’t carry a custom-fit front receiver or a grille/brush guard specifically designed for the ProMaster.

The best route I can see for what you’re wanting to do would be having a fabrication shop install a universal receiver like the Curt Class 5 Universal Weld-On Hitch # C47CR at the front of the van. It has a 2" receiver and is rated for up to 1,600 lbs of tongue weight as a hitch, but the actual capacity on your ProMaster would depend on how it is fabricated and attached to the van. We have recommended this hitch before as a front-receiver option for a ProMaster, but it definitely needs to be installed by a qualified fabricator.

There are ProMaster-specific front receivers on the aftermarket, but the one I found from Van Compass is only rated for a 300 lb static load, so that wouldn't meet the 500 lb rating you're looking for.

As for running a receiver and a brush/grille guard together, that's where things get tricky. Both pieces would typically need to use the limited structural mounting locations at the front of the van, so I wouldn't assume that two independently designed systems could be installed together without interference.

I also wouldn't recommend welding a receiver shank directly onto a grille guard unless the guard manufacturer or a qualified fabricator specifically designs it to carry that kind of load. Most grille guards aren't designed to support the weight and leverage of a dirt bike and carrier.

If carrying the dirt bike up front is the main goal, I'd start with the receiver and have a fabrication shop design the installation around that. They may then be able to fabricate a removable brush guard that works with the same structure. Just keep in mind that the bike + carrier combined weight, front axle weight rating, cooling airflow, headlights, and license plate clearance all need to be considered.

How much does your dirt bike weigh, and about how much does the carrier you're planning to use weigh?
