Adding Brake Lights to a Thule Bike Rack with License Plate Holder # TH35JV

Published 08/19/2026

Question:

Perfect TH35JV illuminated license holder. Quick disconnect and portable. Is there one upgraded with a single third brake light? Bike racks stick furter out the tail-end, like lumber without a red flag, not showing true distance specifically at night. A tiny red brake light upgrade in the TH35JV illuminated license holder would indicate a closer object stop warning. Thats a safty issue worthy of a lighted upgrade. Thanks for any help

Hi Carl,

I completely understand what you’re getting at. When a bike rack sticks out behind the vehicle, having additional lighting back there can make its position much easier for other drivers to see at night. There isn’t an upgrade for the Thule License Plate Holder # TH35JV that adds a third brake light directly to the holder, but depending on which Thule bike rack you have, we may be able to add a complete tail light kit instead.

If you have a Thule Epos # TH99XE or # TH69XE, the Tail Light Kit and License Plate Holder # TH79XE is the option I’d look at. If you have a Thule Verse # TH64SA, # TH74SA, or # TH96SA, or a Thule Vero bike rack, we have a light kit available for those racks as well. These kits put running lights, brake lights, and turn signals right at the rack, which gives other drivers a much better indication of where the back of your setup actually is.

The only caveat is that these are complete kits and already include a license plate bracket, so you would essentially be getting another bracket even though you already have the # TH35JV. I just want to make that clear so there aren’t any surprises.

Which Thule bike rack do you have, Carl? I’d be happy to make sure we get you the correct light kit.
