Question:
Hi, I’m looking at the Draw-Tite Hidden Hitch with the removable receiver for a BMW X5 E70. I noticed your fitment information shows it working with a 2013 X5, but not a 2011 X5. As far as I’m aware, both are E70 chassis vehicles with very similar rear structures. Could you confirm what specifically prevents this hitch from fitting a 2011 X5? Is there a difference in the bumper, mounting points, or another component, or has the hitch simply not been tested/confirmed on the earlier model years? My vehicle is a 2011 BMW X5 xDrive35d. Thanks, Chris

Hey Chris, thanks for reaching out. We do have hitches that are a confirmed fit for your 2011 BMW X5, but the EcoHitch Stealth Trailer Hitch # 306-X7265 is not one of them. You are correct that your 2011 X5 xDrive35d and the 2013 X5 are both E70 chassis vehicles, and I am not seeing a specific bumper or frame difference that clearly explains the fitment cutoff for # 306-X7265.
That said, I am going to stick with the manufacturer-confirmed fitment. EcoHitch specifically confirms # 306-X7265 for the 2013 E70, but does not confirm it for your 2011. Even when two model years look identical underneath, small changes in mounting points, bumper structure, exhaust clearance, or testing requirements can affect a hitch application. For something carrying or towing thousands of pounds, I am not comfortable recommending a hitch outside the manufacturer's tested fitment. For your 2011 X5, I recommend going with a hitch specifically confirmed for that model year.
The Stealth Hitches Hidden Rack Receiver # SH69VR is what I recommend if you want the removable receiver, or if you want a standard fixed hitch, the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e84AR will work great.
What will you be using the hitch for?
