Hey John, thanks for reaching out. The MaxxFan Deluxe # MA00-07000K is actually a great upgrade for what you're trying to do. It has controls directly on the vent, but it also comes with a wireless remote, so your wife can open and close the powered lid, change fan speeds, reverse the airflow, and control the thermostat without reaching the ceiling.
Your existing 4-speed wall control will not work with the # MA00-07000K, but you may not need it since the wireless remote handles the fan functions. If you still want a permanent wall control, you can add the 6-button wall control # MA59FR and communication cable # MA69FR. You will need to run a new cable though, so using the old cable to pull the new one through the wall is exactly how I'd tackle it, assuming the existing cable isn't stapled or secured inside the wall.
What camper are you installing the new vent on?

My Max fan works like a champ moves a lot of air on full speed. Not so sure what the other gentleman was talking about. It moves a lot more air than those cheap as little bitty fans that come with the RV and it doesn't get rained in I have several of the manual ones (2 manual on my old RV, one manual and one auto on the newer RV) and I have one of the automatic. I have the automatic in the back of my RV so on travel days I can just turn it on set the temperature and let it go so it keeps the back of the class C RV Reasonable. The automatic means I don't climb on the bed pull the pillow out and reach up the manually turn everything on I just pull the pillow out on the automatic one turn it on make sure it's set for auto and go It turns on according to temperature. The automatic one has the wireless remote. Yes it does make a bit of noise, but I don't know what fan doesn't when air gets moved around blades it's going to create noise.

John, I immediately replaced the stock bathroom vent fan when we purchased our motorhome 3 years ago with the 10 speed Maxxfan Deluxe Roof Vent with 12v fan, Thermostat and Remote. Very easy to remove the stock fan and even easier to install the Maxxfan. The remote makes opening, changing speeds, reversing air flow very easy. If desired you can utilize the controls on the fan itself. The thermostat is built into the remote which makes opening and closing hands off if desired. Reach out if you have additional questions

I find the automatic vents noisy, and they don’t move as much air as one without the covers on. The covers don’t allow the vent to open as far as it can. And the air movement because of that is noisy. It’s nice, not having to jump up and open or close the vent. But it’s not worth it to me for the noise and lack of airflow. I wouldn’t buy them again. At least with the vent covers on it.
