Question:
Good morning, I recently purchased a 2026 VW Jetta sport. I have the need for a trailer hitch for my Kuat bike rack. I also have a small utility trailer. They both require a 2 receiver. Can I mount a trailer hitch? Thanks, Chris

Hello Chris,
Welcome to etrailer, I'm glad you found us!
When I look up the specs for your 2026 Volkswagen Jetta Sport, I do not see that it has dual exhaust. I would still take a quick look underneath and confirm you only have the single exhaust. If that's the case, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11540 is going to be a great fit.
The # C11540 is a Class I hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver, so which Kuat bike rack do you have? Some Kuat racks can be converted to work with a 1-1/4" receiver with the correct parts. I do not recommend using an adapter like the # C45785, it is not rated to tow, and will cut your tongue weight in half.
Since you'll also be towing a light utility trailer, you'll need the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter # C59236 for your trailer lights. There isn't a plug-and-play option available for your Jetta at this time, so you will need to splice this one into your vehicle wiring. I attached our Dealer Locator if you would rather pay someone to do the job.
For the ball mount, I recommend the Brophy Drawbar # BM96. With the hitch installed, we measured 10-1/2" from the ground to the inside top of the receiver. Since most trailer couplers sit around 16" high when level, the 5-1/2" rise of the # BM96 should put you right around level. I would still measure your trailer from the ground to the bottom of the coupler while it's level to make sure.
If your utility trailer uses a 2" ball, you can pair the # BM96 with the Curt 2" Hitch Ball # C40018. Just check the size stamped on your trailer coupler to confirm which ball size it requires.
You'll also want to check your Jetta's owner's manual to see what Volkswagen says your specific car can tow, since you'll always need to stay within the vehicle manufacturer's limits.
So the real question is, what Kuat bike rack do you have?
