Can Roofing Adhesive Be Used Over The Existing Decking On My Roof?

Hello, we are prepping to replace a pvc roof with the xtrm pvc kit. We have viewed your install videos and wanted to double check that you are using the adhesive over the existing decking? The deck is in great shape on the rig and want to salvage that if possible. any info you can give is greatly appreciated.

Hey Christopher, thanks for reaching out. Yes, if your existing roof decking is solid, dry, and free of rot or delamination, you can absolutely reuse it. That's exactly what we do in our installation videos. Once the old membrane is removed, scrape off the old adhesive, clean the surface thoroughly, and make sure the decking is as smooth as possible. Then apply the adhesive directly to the existing decking before laying down the new Alpha XTRM PVC membrane.

The biggest thing is taking the time to prep the decking. Any loose adhesive, raised seams, fastener heads, or debris left behind can telegraph through the new membrane. If the decking is clean, flat, and structurally sound, there's no need to replace it just because you're installing a new roof.
