Do I Need Spacers for My Timbrens?

Updated 08/31/2026 | Published 08/06/2026

Question:

Purchased TGMRCK15S timbrens for 2013 chevy silverado 1500 with a camper on the back. The truck also has super springs. When the camper is lifted off there is more than the suggested space between the support and bottom of the timbrens. With the camper loaded they are in contact. Do I need a spacer if the camper stays on the truck?

Hey Ken!

I can definitely understand the concern, especially when you're seeing more than the recommended gap with the camper removed.

Since the camper normally stays on the truck and the Timbrens are already making contact when it's loaded, I would not add a spacer. The recommended gap is primarily important when the truck is unloaded so the Timbrens aren't constantly engaged and affecting the unloaded ride. Adding a spacer in your case would cause them to engage sooner and could make the ride unnecessarily stiff with the camper installed.

I would leave the Timbrens as they are as long as they're making proper contact with the camper loaded. Just keep in mind that they won't provide independent side-to-side adjustment for correcting the lean caused by the camper's uneven weight like the air bags we discussed previously would.

Do you typically take the camper out mostly on highways or rougher rural roads?

Thank you for your informative response. To answer you question, I mostly travel rougher rural roads.

@Kenneth The Timbrens are a great option in that case. They'll prevent your Silverado from bottoming out and remain solid and durable for years to come!
