Looking for RV AC Unit for Rockwood 1608BS Bedroom

Updated 08/03/2026 | Published 07/31/2026

Question:

The bedroom in my Rockwood 1608BS IS only 64 square ft. Why would I have to install a 15,000 btu heat pump?

Hey Stephen, this is a great question. For a room as small as what you have you could easily get by with an AC unit with a lot lower of a BTU rating than 15k. Typically a 9k btu unit can handle up to a 180 square foot room. We have 12 volt RV AC units like the Velit 2000R # VE77QV which puts out 8k btu and would be more than enough for your room. This is a complete kit so it comes with everything you'd need to install plus it has a remote for easier control as well. What AC unit do you have out in the main room of your Rockwood?

I have a 15,000 btu ac ducted Coleman Mach 15 that is also ducted into the bedroom. That is in the front of the ac . The one you are recommending Will not work for me.

@StephenA What would work for you? Or what are you preferences from an AC unit?

I’m still looking at the FR87TQ but not sure yet. I don’t know if I asked this but do you give veterans a discount?

@Stephen The part # FR87TQ is really awesome. It's super quiet, very efficient, and draws a very low amount of current to run. I really wish we had a veterans discount but I hate to say we don't.
