Replacement Idler Axle for a 1996 Yacht Club Boat Trailer with a V-Bend Axle

Updated 08/03/2026 | Published 07/28/2026

Question:

I have a 1996 yacht club boat trailer that has a v shape to the axel. It is an idler axel that has no brakes it is 88 9/16 hub face to hub face. And 73 13/16 center of springs. I am wondering if you have anything comparable

I'm happy to help with that Wade.

Based on the measurements you provided, the closest axle we carry is the Trailer Axle with Idler Hubs, Part # e65GR. It has an 89 inch hub face to hub face measurement and a 74 inch spring center measurement, which is very close to your existing 88-9/16 inch hub face and 73-13/16 inch spring center dimensions.

The one thing I'd want you to be aware of is that this is a straight round tube axle, while your Yacht Club trailer uses a V-shaped axle. That V-shape is there to provide extra clearance for the bottom of the boat, so switching to a straight axle could reduce that clearance.

Before making the change, I'd recommend checking how much room you have between the bottom of your boat and the current V-shaped axle. An easy way to do that is to measure from the lowest point of the hull straight down to the lowest point of the axle. Then imagine a straight line running from one hub to the other. If the bottom of the boat hangs below that imaginary line, a straight axle may contact the hull. If the hull stays several inches above that line, a straight axle may work just fine.

Can you tell me what year, make, and model your boat is? That will help me get a better idea of whether a straight axle is likely to provide enough clearance for your setup.
