Torque Specifications for Lionshead 16-Inch Steel Trailer Wheels and Metal Valve Stems

Updated 07/30/2026 | Published 07/24/2026

Question:

I ordered some 16 Lionshead modular steel wheels for my 5th wheel toy hauler. Can you provide me the torque specs for these wheels please? Cold tire pressure for my tires is 110 psi. I also ordered the steel valve stems for the wheels. I assume this combo will work?

Hi Jimmy! Absolutely, and you're in good shape with the combination you ordered. The Americana metal bolt-in valve stems, part # AM20906, are rated for up to 200 PSI, so they'll have no problem handling your tires at 110 PSI. That's actually a great match for the Lionshead Steel Modular Trailer Wheels, part # LH44ZR.

For the wheel itself, the torque specification depends on the size of your trailer's wheel studs, not the wheel. If your trailer has 1/2 inch wheel studs, torque the lug nuts to 90 to 120 ft-lbs. If it has 9/16 inch wheel studs, torque them to 125 to 130 ft-lbs. The LH44ZR wheel is compatible with either 1/2 inch-20 or 9/16 inch-18 wheel studs, so you'll just want to use the specification that matches your trailer. I also recommend rechecking the lug nut torque after the first 50 to 100 miles, since it's always a good idea anytime new wheels are installed.

As for the valve stems themselves, there isn't a published torque specification. They just need to be tightened enough to properly compress the rubber seal and prevent air leaks without overtightening. If you're using the included hardware and tightening them evenly, you'll be in great shape.

Out of curiosity, what kind of toy hauler are you getting ready to put these wheels on?

Toy hauler is 2019 Heartland Cyclone 3600 tandem axle. The studs are 9/16" could you tell me lug nut angle being I am switching from aluminum wheels to steel so the lug nut will seat properly? Thanks!
