What MaxxAir Fan Can I Use to Replace the Vent in my 2021 Keystone Cougar 22MLS?

Updated 07/21/2026 | Published 07/15/2026

Question:

Have a 2021 Keystone Cougar 22 MLS. Looking to install a maxx air fan above the bed. There is currently a vent there with no fan. Any idea what fan I need and what is needed for power? Hoping there is already wiring in place in spite of no fan currently there. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Jeff,

To replace the vent in your roof you'll first want to remove the garnish from the vent and look for a 12V positive wire (usually red) and a ground (typically white or black) tucked into the ceiling. If the wires are there, you'll be able to easily connect to the fan's power and ground wires to install it. If there aren't any wires, you need to run a 12V circuit to the fan from a nearby ceiling light or another 12V source.

To replace the vent, I suggest using the MaxxFan Plus Roof Vent w/12V Fan, Thermostat, and Remote part # MA00-04500K. It's a 10-speed, reversible fan with a powered lift and rain sensor that will automatically close the lid and shut off if it rains or snows. The built-in thermostat will turn the fan on/off when it reaches set temperature and can be adjusted using the battery powered LCD remote. The remote and powered lift are great because you can turn the fan on or off and adjust the temperature without having to get out of bed. It fits into a 14"x14" cutout, so if your current vent is smaller it will need to be widened to fit the MaxxFan roof vent.

Are you adding a fan because you want to increase air flow or to help with the temperature?

I bought two of the fans. They are terrific! Quiet, powerful, and reversible. They were easy to install as well.

@Marla We're so happy to hear you're loving the MaxxFan roof vents! The reversible feature is the best! The air gets so stale overnight or throughout the day in the camper, so it's nice to be able to air it out.

Jeff Claire H response is perfect. You just need to check you depth for this fan installation and hope or figure out how to get power to it which is essential. My bathroom ceiling fan disintegrated totally even though 31’ bighorn, Only spent less the six months outdoors. Whoever product they used during construction was total junk. Just touching the lid with a finger broke it apart. The Max air product is perfect replacement and power is essential for proper instalkstion and operation. My wife is short and hang a remote to open the vent because she can’t reach the manual lever is perfect. I would highly recommend the product if it fits and you can get power to the location, I even put a smoke colored vent cover on to keep the heat gain down. Best of luck. Terry Knox

@TerryK Oh wow, it sounds like the MaxxFan Plus was a major upgrade from your original fan! Your tip about checking the roof thickness is totally correct and a good thing for people to keep in mind if they're looking to upgrade too. Thank you for sharing your experience!

I ordered this fan to replace my weak bathroom factory one, was loud and did not helped much, instalation was straight forward, used the same wiring but what a difference, during showers the air circulation is fantastic, also super quiet, and with so many speed settings is fantastic
