Hi Paula,
For you 2016 Freightliner 2500 with step bumper, I suggest using the etrailer Custom Trailer Hitch with 2" Receiver part # e82TR. It is a 2" trailer hitch receiver that will fit both the 144" and 170" wheelbase, however, it will NOT fit passenger vans or vehicles with a 30 3/8" frame measured from outside frame to outside frame. It is a no drill installation and is designed to sit at the edge of the step bumper, so you won't need an extension to get past the step.
For wiring, you'll need the Curt Powered Taillight Converter with 4-way Flat part # C59496, it's a universal wiring harness so it will require splicing into the vehicle's wiring. To add a 7-way, you can use the Universal Brake Controller Installation Kit part # ETBC7. The ETBC7 includes a 7 and 4-way connector that your 4-way from the wiring harness will plug into and 10-gauge wiring to run the brake signal and power back to the 7-way.
What are you planning on towing with your Freightliner 2500?
