Question:
Ive installed a hitch on my 2026 RAV4 and am trying to determine which 4-way wiring harness to use. CURT lists part C56496, Uhaul 56524 and eTrailer C59236. Im totally confused about which one to use. Do you have a install video on a 26 RAV to confirm the process for your recommended part number? Thank You

Hey Robert, congrats on the new SUV. The Curt Powered Tail Light Converter item # C59236 is the correct one for your 2026 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. Your SUV uses a PWM Pulse Width Modulation electrical system, which is common on hybrids. This universal connector is designed specifically for it.
The Curt Powered Tail Light Converter item # C59236 is a universal wiring harness that will add a 4-way connector to your RAV4. It's going to splice directly into your tail light wiring harness and relay the signals from the lights to your trailer connector.
Unfortunately, we have not had an opportunity to install the Curt item # C59236 on a 2026 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid so we do not have an installation video.
I linked the installation instructions below so you can see how to get it set up. You will also need a Circuit Tester like item # PTW2992 to locate the correct wiring functions on your RAV4's tail light harness.
The Curt C56496 you referenced will not work with your RAV4's PWM electrical system. It works on older less complicated electrical systems. I did not see this recommended on Curt's website for your 2026 RAV4 Hybrid. That U-Haul part number doesn't even fit a RAV4, which tracks for them.
What kind of trailer are you pulling or do you need the light harness for a bike rack or cargo carrier?
You can add this information, along with any other questions you have, where it says Add Comment.

The Curt C56496 works perfectly and doesn’t require you to splice into any wires. It connects directly into the 2026 RAV4 wiring harness and only requires the controller’s red brake wire to be cut and taped. Much less work than splicing into the tail lights. I have used my trailer twice and all the LED lights function properly.

For my application dealing with the 9236 item I had a battery in my trunk (European car) and was able to run the positive line to run the inline fuse, ground it and splice into my factory wiring. You do all this in reverse though adding power at the end. I had to confirm which wire went where by using a multimeter and testing voltages I.e. I was testing for 12 VDC and pinned a wire and then toggled which directional or brake, ect…. however your kit might have a wiring harness kit so you can plug and play. Do your research before installing it and if you are not sure pay the extra money to have a shop do the install for you.
