What Do I Need to Replace My Everchill 13.5K AC with a Furrion Chill Cube 18K?

I currently have a 2024 Sun Lite 16BH travel trailer with Everchill 13.5k BTU AC on it. The unit cycles the compressor on and off exactly every 3 minutes and is extremely loud while running. I am thinking about upgrading to the Furrion Chill Cube 18k model and wanted to see all what would need to be bought for my install. I understand that I will need a distribution box, but will I also need to get a new thermostat? Im not too concerned about having controls for the furnace as that is something I dont really use anyways in texas. Any insight on this swap would be helpful. Thanks.

Hello Eric,
Welcome to etrailer, I'm glad you found us!
You can definitely make that upgrade, and I think you'll be much happier with the Furrion Chill Cube. The variable speed compressor is designed to adjust its output based on the cooling demand instead of constantly cycling on and off like a traditional fixed-speed air conditioner. That makes it much quieter while also maintaining a more consistent temperature inside the trailer.
Since your Sun Lite 16BH has a non-ducted air conditioner, I recommend going with the complete Furrion Chill Cube Variable Speed RV AC System with Air Distribution Box and Remote, part # FR59TD. This includes everything you'll need for the swap, including the air distribution box and the controls for the air conditioner, so you won't need to purchase a separate thermostat. Since you mentioned you don't use the furnace very often, not having integrated furnace controls shouldn't be an issue. I really like the follow me feature on the remote.
While you're installing the new system, I also recommend picking up LaSalle Bristol Aluminum HVAC Tape # UT83MR. Sealing the air box with HVAC tape helps prevent cooled air from escaping into the roof cavity so all of the airflow is directed into your trailer. It's a simple step that helps the Chill Cube deliver the best cooling performance.
I think you'll notice a significant improvement in both noise level and overall comfort compared to your current Everchill unit. I just got a review the other day stating that they no longer need to use their second A/C because this unit cools their entire camper.

Eric I recently upgraded from an automatic AC unit to Furion Chill Cube-in our 195 RPod. Yes, that may seem like overkill, but it works beautifully - quickly cooling the unit and maintaining it throughout the day. One thing I would recommend is don’t even try to interface the original Dometic thermostat. Just pull that out and replace it with a Lux Pro PSDO 108 mechanical thermostat. This will just work your heater, which is simply a pass through switch so you’ll be on two thermostats one for the AC which comes with the Furion Chill Cube and another just for your heater when needed.
