Do the Yakima HD Crossbars Lock to Yakima Overhaul HD Ladder Racks?

Updated 07/08/2026 | Published 07/01/2026

Question:

Do/can these lock to the Overhaul HD racks? How would you recommend securing them against thievery and shenanigans?

Hi BJ,

Thanks for your question!

The Yakima HD Crossbars, like # Y01159, do not lock directly to the Yakima OverHaul HD Ladder Rack, such as # Y01151-5855.

Instead, the HD crossbars attach to the OverHaul uprights by using a threaded plate that slides into the crossbar's T-slot and secures to the elbow at the top of each upright. Once installed, the crossbars are mechanically fastened to the rack rather than secured with a lock.

Unfortunately, that means that the removal of the HD crossbars from the Overhaul system would only require removing the four bolts that secure the crossbars and the two set screws that hold the end caps in place. There isn't going to be a specific aftermarket product that allow you to lock just the crossbars either.

The good news is that the OverHaul HD uprights themselves lock to your truck bed using Yakima's SKS lock system, helping to secure the rack to the vehicle. I've included a photo that shows the locking feature.

For comparison, a traditional roof rack setup uses towers—such as Yakima Baseline towers—that clamp to the vehicle and can be locked to help prevent removal of the crossbars. I've included a photo of that style of installation as well.

Do you already have a Yakima OverHaul HD system, or are you still deciding which rack to go with?

Thanks, Chris. I don't have the system yet, I'm trying to figure the most efficient way to purchase the it, for my Diamondback HD bed cover, so that I'm not left with and/or paying for parts of the system I don't need. Also, I can be in some sketchy areas at times, and trust no one, so I don't want someone unfastening the bars.
