Question:

I am looking for a trailer coupler for a 2 inch ball and 2 1/2 inch channel with 2 1/2 inch spacing for the side bolt holes. Do you have something like this?

Hey Don, thanks for reaching out. We do have a coupler for a 2" ball that fits a 2-1/2" channel. Take a look at the following:

- Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler - Trigger Latch - Zinc - 2" Ball - Bolt On - 3,500 lbs # CT-3002-Z

This will fit the 2-1/2" channel, but it has holes spaced 3" apart. This is standard for couplers, so we don't have anything with a 2-1/2" hole spacing. You'll need to drill another hole in the trailer tongue or drill an additional hole in the side of the coupler.

What trailer do you have?

Jesse, thanks for the response. I have a Northern Tool Ultra-Tow 4ft. x 8ft. Folding Aluminum Utility Trailer, model # 49803. I wanted something light weight and since I am older, I will not be hauling big heavy loads with the trailer. Which would be better from a strength perspective, to drill the couple (thinner metal) or the steel 2 1/2-inch channel which is thicker steel than the coupler. I appreciate your help with this non-US made (China) trailer. I already have a nice 2-inch ball that I can use for other trailers, like an enclosed U-Haul trailer. That is why I want to transition to the 2-inch ball. I think the coupler will be easier to drill since it is thinner, but I don't want compromise on strength. Thanks.

@DonB Yea I agree that drilling an additional hole in the coupler is the best/easiest option. As long as its properly bolted on, it won't compromise the strength of the connection.

Jesse, Thanks for your advice. I did drill into the coupler instead of the channel. I was able to get a new coupler installed.
