Question:
I have a 5x8 Steel Mesh Utility trailer I purchased from the Trailor Supply Store about 15 years ago. My problem is the lights are completely in need of replacement. I already purchased and tried installing two light kits that were recommended by the salesman and they did not work. My question is what light kit I need to get?

Hey Stanley!
You can use RV Designer Rear Trailer Light Kit w/ Tail Lights, Side Marker Lights # RD65RR to replace the lighting on your trailer. This kit includes two tail lights, two side markets lights, a license plate bracket, a 20' wiring harness (which will be plenty of length for your trailer), and all mounting hardware. After installation of this kit, you can be assured that all components will be in good working order.
Alternatively, I would start by checking your vehicle's wiring using a circuit tester like Hook Probe Circuit Tester # PTW2993. If all connections on the vehicle are in good working order, then you can move forward with checking the connections on the trailer. The most common issue is a faulty ground. Be sure to check the ground both at the trailer plug and each individual light and ensure there's no rust or loose connections. Next, you can check the trailer connector to make sure there's no corrosion on any of the pins. If that needs to be replaced, TowSmart 4-Way Flat Connector Rapid Repair Trailer Wiring Kit # TS68QR or 7-Way Round RV Style Trailer Connector - Trailer Side # A7WCB, depending on which style of plug you currently have. Finally, if all of the previous items are good, then the problem could be the light itself. When that's the case, we can get you a replacement based on the shape and dimensions of the light that you're replacing.
Are the lights that are bad completely not working or are they flashing and working in and out?
