Can Victron Orion-Tr Smart Isolated DC-DC Charger Be Installed On Vehicle For Trailer Battery

Question:

Could I install this charger in front of the 7-way plug on my tow vehicle so I could charge either the battery in my RV or a batter in the back of my truck for a trolling motor for my canoe while driving?

Hey Cody! It is possible to mount the Victron Orion-Tr # VN56RR on your vehicle. However, you will need to completely bypass your 7-way wiring so you don't have issues with voltage drop. You will also need to use heavy gauge wire like 6 AWG for the setup.

You will run wire from your battery to the charger, then run additional wire to the rear bumper and add something like an Anderson connector. Add another Anderson connector and run the rest of the wire on the trailer side to the trailer battery. Then you can add wire and another Anderson connector to the trolling motor battery to connect when you need to charge it and aren't towing.
