Hitch Extension for 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 Denali Towing 1947 Aero Flite Falcon

Updated 06/17/2026 | Published 06/15/2026

Question:

I have a 2024 GMC 2500 Sierra Denali with a 2.5 inch receiver and a 2.5 inch Weigh Safe hitch to tow a 1947 Aero Flite Falcon which weighs about 3000 lbs and has a hitch weight of about 500 lbs. The trailer tongue is so short I do not have much of a turn radius. Is there an extender I can get that will lengthen the distance between my truck and trailer to help my turn radius?

Hey Peter, that's a cool camper! A hitch extension like the Brophy Hitch Reducer and Extender # HR26 will get you some extra clearance for turning. However, all of the hitch extenders available for a 2-1/2" receiver reduce down to a 2" receiver opening, so if you use an extender you'll need to switch to a ball mount with a 2" shank.

If you don't want to use a different ball mount, the Gen-Y # 325-GH-623 can accomplish the same thing and effectively act as an extension. This has 2-1/2" stacked receivers so you could pair it with the Weigh Safe. The down side is that it comes at a significantly higher cost.

Where do you typically travel with your '47 Aero Flite Falcon?
