How Do I add 7-Way Trailer Functions to my Vehicle that has a 4-Way Trailer Harness?

Question:

Hi there. I have a 2025 Toyota Grand Highlander Platinum Max. I am purchasing a Jayco Jay Flight camper that has brakes on it. I have the Toyota factory tow bar and 4-pin wiring harness on my car. I also have a Curt Echo Controller. Would the ETBC7L kit be the appropriate on to install so I can run my trailer brakes through my Curt controller? Thank you for the help.

Yes, the etrailer 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit # ETBC7L would be the correct kit for your setup. Since your Grand Highlander already has a 4 pin connector and you’re using the Curt Echo brake controller, the ETBC7L will add the 7-way connector and the 12-volt power the Echo needs to run the trailer brakes.

This 7 way upgrade kit is just what you need. It is built a lot better than most other 7 way kits on the market. Installation is simple and the product is very durable. I like ours very much.

I use the exact same system on my 2024 Grand Highlander. I pull a 16 foot enclosed trailer with trailer brakes. Check out the photos in my review to see how I was able to tuck the mounting bracket slightly higher. Overall, it works just fine.
