Can I use the Previous Baseplate on a Jeep Wrangler JL on Jeep Wrangler JK?

Updated 06/11/2026 | Published 06/10/2026

Question:

I have a Roadmaster RV flat towing set up. My previous towed vehicle was a Jeep JK. I have upgraded to a Jeep JL Wrangler and have been told the frame is wider and the JK mounts do not work. Can I simply purchase JL baseplates and use my current tow system?

Thanks for reaching out Greg, really good question!

Yes, in most cases you can keep your existing Roadmaster tow bar and simply replace the vehicle specific base plates with JL compatible base plates. The JK and JL use different frame designs, so JK base plates generally will not fit a JL Wrangler.

If you'd like to reply back with the year, make, model of the vehicles then I can confirm fitment on the new parts.

What style of bumper do you have on the new wrangler JL?

James, the new JL uses the new plastic bumper, as stock from factory.

@GregW thanks, for the 2016 Jeep Wrangler JL with standard factory bumper # RM-521448-5 is the confirmed fit for the vehicle.
