Why Cant an Over/Under Conversion Kit be Used on Slipper Spring Suspension

Question:

I have an 82 Featherlight horse trailer that drags the rear from time to time. Due to the newer trucks having taller box sides I had to lengthen the gooseneck out to clear the sides so now I need to raise the trailer. Can I use this product? Why does it say in the description for double eye springs only? Thanks.

When moving the leaf spring stack above the axles using an over/under conversion kit # K71-385-00 there is the potential for more travel in the suspension. Double-eye springs are bolted on so excessive travel would not affect them like it would a slipper spring which is just sort of hanging on to a hanger on one end.

But not to worry. All you have to do to get additional height with slipper spring suspension is replace the hangers with taller hangers. We have many different options, see link to the right. The key is to raise all the hangers in equal amounts. So if you switched to a hanger that was 3 inches taller in one spot you would need to use hangers that are 3 inches taller in all locations.

The older hangers will need to be cut off and the new ones welded on by a qualified professional welder. Please note that raising the height of a trailer will make it more susceptible to sway.
