Question:

I am trying to upgrade my Northern Light 8-11 to lithium. Do you carry the WFCO WF-8945-AD-REP? If not which converter would you recommend as a direct replacement to the Parallax 7345 RU?

Thanks for the information and picture Shawn. I have a replacement lithium compatible converter for your Parallax 7345 RU but we do not carry the WFCO WF-8945-AD-REP.

To replace your Parallax 7345 RU, you'll want the Progressive Dynamics Replacement Section item # PD4645V. This converter was designed to replace the converter section in a Parallax 6345 model converter/power center. It can support both lead acid and lithium batteries depending on which position you have the little black jumper in on the circuit board.

The jumper for the item # PD4645V is shown in the picture below. This features helpful if you want to replace the converter before you upgrade to lithium batteries.

How large of a lithium battery bank do you plan on adding to your Northern Light 8-11?

I'm looking to add 600ah lithium. One of the issues is of course the converter. Is there another converter I can use with an automatic switch? It's not that big of a deal but would be one less thing to worry about. Another issue I'm having is that none of the batteries I'm considering fit through the hatch opening (9") and/or are short enough to fit the depth (24"). Challenges of using older campers with modern equipment.

@Shawn There is but it's not going to fit in your power center. It's the WFCO Auto-Detect RV Converter Charger item # WF58FR. This would sit outside your power center and need to be plugged into a 3-prong outlet. The switch is really easy to access but the lack of automatic switching is why the item # PD4645V is quite a bit less expensive then the WFCO WF-8945-AD-REP you referenced. Not sure how wide your compartment is but we have the 300 amp hour Go Power Sun Cycle Advanced Lithium RV Battery item # GP26QR that measures 19-5/8" long x 14-7/8" wide x 8-11/16" tall. It'll just barely get through that opening.

The PD converter installation was easy. Watch a few YouTube videos. I don't understand your desire for an "automatic switch". I assume you mean to switch between lithium and lead-acid. This seems unnecessary unless you have a lead-acid bank and a lithium bank installed. But, whatever your reason, you can access the "switch", which is really a tiny double pin connector, on the PD unit by simply removing the front panel. To switch, you pull out the connector and move it over a millimeter to the next position over. The process takes less time than you spent reading this, lol. Anything else, just ask.

A few more considerations: If your unit is a drivable RV, you should definitely add a charging-limiter between your alternator and the converter. This will protect your alternator and your life if it catches fire. If you don't know why, ask the pro. Second, I'm not sure if etrailer allows recommendations for products they don't sell, but there are many fine batteries out there. I wouldn't fool with anything less than 300AH. I installed an Epoch 300AH battery (not much larger than my old lead-acid), and a Victron 12-12v 50A charger. If you have a trailer, you might not need the charge limiter because the wire guage and distance from alternator to house battery sort of dies that automatically. Again, ask a pro regarding this.

I got one a few years back for a 1999 Alpinelite camper and so far it's worked fine. To get full charge on the lithium battery, you need to move a small bridge wire to the lithium position. At that point the auto charger for lead or AGM batteries no longer needs to be hooked up. Great tech support for the site & phone support.

Like always E-Trailer has been awesome. No returns needed. Everything they said they did. The product was installed 4 months after the purchase Due to ongoing projects so I had a litts le anxiety when I had a professional rv electrician install the inverter And he at the same time corrected other issues. The part was perfect and all went according E-Trailers recommendation
