Can The Valterra StayPut Ramp VAL68MB Be Used On A 5th Wheel While Attached To A B&W Companion?

Updated 05/21/2026 | Published 05/19/2026

Question:

The Valterra StayPut Tandem Trailer Tire Changing Ramp is advertised in your video example using a travel trailer. I have a 5th wheel camper. Can this product be used on a 5th wheel camper which has a kingpin and BandW Companion 5th wheel hitch? Is there enough movement in the hitch with this product?

Welcome back again, Paul!

The Valterra StayPut Tandem Trailer Tire Changing Ramp # VAL68MB has a 15,000 pound per box capacity, so as long as your 5th wheel doesn't have that much weight per side (it shouldn't), it will indeed work in that aspect.

As to the B&W Companion being able to handle that kind of articulation, yes it will. The Companion head (fixed or slider) allows for plenty of movement and a 5-1/2" tall ramp like this is well within that movement/articulation range. I did double check with B&W on that (just to make absolutely sure), and they agreed.

What kind of 5th wheel are you towing? And have you experienced blowouts before?

I have a Forest River Wildcat 37 foot 11,000 lb dry weight. I’m actually thinking of using this product to repack wheel bearings instead of jacking the trailer. B @ W said this should not be a problem. Their articulation value was in degrees not inches. Thank you for the reply.

@PaulS You're very welcome! And I think this would be a great part for helping with repacking your bearings. Especially when you don't have a floor jack or something handy.
