Electric Tongue Jack for 7,000 lb Cargo Trailer

Question:
I have a 7000 lb GVW cargo trailer on which I’d like to install an electric tongue jack. Figuring the tongue weight is simple, but my Husky Centerline WDH requires lifting the rear of my pickup with the trailer attached. What strength jack do you recommend?

Hey Rick! The 5,000 lb capacity on the etrailer Electric Trailer Jack # e55ZV you were looking at would be the best option. This will keep it from struggling to lift the rear of your truck and trailer when setting up your weight distribution hitch. You also won't have to worry if you have extra gear back there in the truck bed.

I have that jack on my Travel Trailer. It has a little over 1000 lbs tongue weight. I use it to lift the front of the trailer and the back of my Chevy 2500 pickup to install the weight distributing bars. It has no issue doing that.

We've had one of these jacks for about 2 years. Bought it in part due to the smaller head allowing me to open the tailgate of my pickup with our travel trailer hooked up. Trailer tongue weight is about 1000 lb and the jack has been great lifting it up off the hitch. But it produces a noise like it is missing a gear tooth when lowering the trailer. I don't know if the internal gears are metal or plastic, so I have no real idea why it produces the noise. The built in LED is very helpful when hitching/unhitching at night and never had an issue with it handling rain. I really like the multiple foot adjustments and the label with the max lowering on the leg.
