Recommended Hitch for a Thor ACE Motorhome on a F-53 Chassis

Updated 05/21/2026 | Published 05/19/2026

Question:

I own a Thor ACE RV on a Ford Chassis. 1st: In case I get stuck in some sand etc. I am interested in placing a pull-tow hook structure on the front so that my 4-wheel drive car could be used as a pull-assist in the event my RV gets stuck in mud or sand. 2nd: I am interested in putting on a rear hitch to attach trailer and/or car-tow. Sincerely

Thanks for the information Mark! I have a rear hitch but I do not have a way to add a front hitch or attachment point for recovery use to your Thor ACE motorhome.

Since your Thor ACE was built on a Ford F-53 chassis, I recommend the Curt Class 5 Universal Weld-on Hitch w/ Brackets item # C99CR. There is not a custom fit receiver for the F-53 models because the chassis can be modified by the RV manufacturer and would require different options for different RVs.

The Curt item # C99CR includes universal brackets that will need to be welded to the outside of your frame. It fits frames up to 44" wide so this will work great. It has a 16,000 lbs towing capacity and a maximum tongue weight of 1,600 lbs. We also have the same style hitch item # C87CR with a 2-1/2" receiver. This one has a 20,000 lbs towing capacity and 2,000 lbs max tongue weight.

What kind of trailer would you be towing behind your motorhome?

You can add this information and any other questions you have where it says Reply to Jerred H and I'll be happy to answer them.
