Congrats on your new truck Robert! To add a easy to install and effective brake controller, I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller w/ Custom Harness item # RED26CR. This is a proportional brake controller that automatically adjusts your trailer's braking based on the deceleration of your Silverado. This is the safest way to slow or stop your trailer and the easiest stress wise on both your truck and trailer.
The Liberty item # RED26CR has a unique installation method where the main unit is concealed behind your dash and the only part visible is the control knob. This kit includes a custom fit harness that will make installation pretty simple. The factory connector you're looking for is located inside a junction box with a black cover on it located on the driver's side floorboard, way in the back, to the left of the brake pedal. There should be an empty spot to plug in the wiring harness located in the upper left corner.
I attached a picture below along with an installation video so you can see how to get the Tow Pro Liberty item # RED26CR installed.
What kind of trailer are you pulling?

I installed one on my 17 silverado, easy install, the harness plugs right in under dash, i popped the light switch bezel and put knob up there so its out of the way and easy to access. It works great , can easily be adjusted based on trailer and weight while driving. Best unit ive ever used, and ive had several over the years

We just got back from our first camping trip and the Redarc tow pro liberty brake controller worked perfect. I have a 2015 Silverado LS and the controller was plug and play. I mounted the button on the left side between the little cubby hole and the credit card holder. pull the cover off the fuse panel on that side to make it easier to snake the wire harness up to the button.
