Reliable AC Unit That's Low Profile For Old Camper Bus Project
Published 05/12/2026 >
Question:
I’m turning an old shuttle bus into a weekend camper and I don’t want a giant AC sticking way up on the roof. I’m not trying to cool a mansion, just make it livable inside. Would the Advent low-profile unit be a good direction?

Hey Talia! Yes, the Advent Air # ADV76SR is a good direction for that kind of build if keeping roof height down matters. It’s a 13,500 Btu low-profile rooftop AC that measures 10-1/8 inches tall, so it gives you cooling without the bulk of a taller standard-profile unit.
Since # ADV76SR is the rooftop unit only, you’ll want to pair it with the Advent Air air distribution box with wall-mounted thermostat # ADV98SR to complete the setup. That kit works for ducted or ductless installs, so it gives you some flexibility depending on how you finish the ceiling. How thick is the roof/ceiling section on that shuttle bus, Talia?
