How Long Should I Expect The Ultra-Fab Solar-Powered Plumbing Vent UF53-945001 To Last?

Hi, I am wondering what the track record on this vent is? How long do you think it will last? Do you know the differences between yours and the one offered by RecPro for about $20 Less? I think this is a great Idea. I just dont want to have to get up on the roof to swap it out every few months. Thank you Michael

Hey Michael, welcome back, and good question. Honestly, the Ultra-Fab Solar-Powered Plumbing Vent for Motor Homes # UF53-945001 has a pretty decent track record for what it is. It’s a very simple design with a small solar panel and low-speed fan, so there really isn’t much to fail besides the fan motor itself. Most of the complaints you’ll see are either from people expecting it to move a ton of air. In normal RV use, these generally last multiple seasons without issue, not “swap it every few months” territory at all. The fact that the fan runs slow and light actually helps longevity. It’s also fully self-contained with no wiring, relays, or batteries to go bad.

Compared to the RecPro version, they’re honestly very similar in concept. Both are small solar-powered plumbing vents meant to gently pull odors and moisture from the black tank area. The Ultra-Fab has been around longer and has more real-world install history behind it, which personally gives me a little more confidence. The cheaper RecPro version may save you a few bucks up front, but a lot of these lower-cost versions use lighter plastics and cheaper fan motors, and that’s usually where longevity differences show up after a few years baking on an RV roof.

The other thing working in your favor is these don’t run hard. They’re not like a MaxxAir fan spinning all day at high RPM. They’re low-draw little exhaust fans that only operate when they’ve got sunlight, so wear is pretty minimal. If you install it properly with good sealant and keep leaves/debris out of it, I’d expect a few years out of it, not months.

@Michael Ok nice! I do think the Ultra-Fab vent will be your best bet as far as durability/longevity. UV is a plastic killer though so it won't last as long in that environment as it would somewhere cool and cloudy. Just trying to set realistic expectations.
