Today we're going to take a look at the Ultra-Fab solar powered plumbing vent for motor homes. How this plumbing vent will replace the factory vent on your RV to release odors and moisture outside your vehicle. It is very silent and reliable ventilation. And it is solar power operation, so it means no wiring, no pulling juice from your battery, and no excessive motor noise. It's a vent only function during the daylight, and cannot store power to operate at night. It is a nice aerodynamic construction, helps limit any wind drag.Very simple installation. It's a universal design. It bolts to the RV rooftop in place of the factory vent. Does come with the included mounting hardware.

Nice set of directions. And it is made of a nice ABS plastic to help resist corrosion.A few dimensions on this. Overall diameter, edge to edge, is right at seven inches. Photo's showing replacement of new E-Trailer Solar Vent.
Thanks for the no-hassle quick replacement.

by:

I have installed these vents on two 7'x14' trailers that are used to store kayaking gear (boats, paddles, helmets,PFD's,clothing and other soft goods). Hoping that the constant air-flow will help prevent mold & mildew. I can already feel the difference in temperature (cooler) than prior to installation. They work, but the construction is so lightweight, I'm wary of how long they'll last. For $[XX], it seems they could construct them a little beefier.

by:

You must replace every two years because the murder stopped working

by:

We have a Suncast storage building and it was beastly hot inside on sunny days so I put some foam insulation between the inner and outer surfaces and installed 2 of these just below the ridgeline of the roof and they are working great. There is absolutely no noise what-so-ever. While they have a limited volume it takes the hot air out allowing cooler air to enter through the normal vents. Great deal for the money and now we will see how long they last making the value even better.

These little solar vet caps Work just fine!
None-the-less, For all my PVC/ plastic roof top covers they fall victim to squirrels! The refrigerator Vent cap alone has been replaced 3 times in about 9 years.

by:

I installed the Ultra-Fab Solar-Powered plumbing vent sold by E-Trailer on my 13 ft. Scamp trailer to circulate and vent air in the trailer while it is being stored. There is indirect sunlight incident to the solar-powered vent that shines through some pine trees. The vent works perfectly. I installed a 4-in. air conditioner duct (sold by etrailer,Valterra Heating And A/C Vent Register) with built in flappers to regulate the air flow thru the solar-powered vent and to make the appearance of the vent look better from the inside of the trailer. Also made a trim ring out of a plastic cutting board to garnish the solar-powered vent inside opening. Look great and works like gang busters.

I had to replace the solar powered vent after one year of service. It was no longer operable. I took the malfunctioning vent apart and found that the seal at the solar panel directly above the motor had failed and permitted water to damage the motor. I installed a second new solar powered vent and took the time to place additional sealant between the solar panel ant its mounting plate.

I am an Rv'er, but actually installed this outlet/exhaust fan on top of my shed. Living in S. Georgia, it gets quite hot and humid, and this thing has been spinning non-stop all year round. I sealed the circumference with all weather silicon as I bolted it down. Outstanding device, and I'll probably get one for my toy hauler as well!

Its been over a year and a half and that little fan is still moving strong, even on overcast days!

by:

Installed new vents. No issues so far.

by:

I didn't use my solar vent quite as intended. I mounted it into the top of a modified Rv roof vent (which I keep closed typically).

This is a replacement. The first lasted about 5 years but ultimately the plastic degraded in the sun and became brittle. I assume this will do the same over time. We shall see.

Works as intended. Keeps a little air flowing through the rv. Wish there were bigger solar fans for this job.

by:

Installed this on top of my 8x8 shed for airflow and ventilation purposes. I've had it for a year now and it still runs almost all day. Sunny or even overcast skys will have it humming along. I was concerned with the plastic blades becoming brittle and not being able to withstand the highs and lows of Michigan's climate, but no issues thus far. I recommend this for a solar powered shed roof vent, but cannot give a review as to its intended rv venting capabilities.

by:

Bought it and still haven’t installed it yet. Maybe next spring.

by:

This is the second solar powered vent I have installed in my trailer in one years time. The first one leaked water into the motor located below and adjacent to the circular plastic piece containing the solar panels. I applied additional silicon to the top of the new I just purchased vent where a connection is made between the circular panel and it outer mounting piece. Hopefully this might work.

by:

I installed this vent on the roof of a 6x12 cargo trailer. It worked well right out of the box, even during a cloudy day. Other reviews suggested adding a screen to keep insects out and so I did. The trailer will sit out in the hot Florida summer sun, and when I return later this year, I'll post an update on how well it performed. So far, so good.

by:

I used this roof mounted solar powered plumbing vent to exhaust excess heat from an enclosed 5x8 trailer. The inside of the trailer remains somewhat close to ambient temperature

by:

I bought this item for a snowmobile trailer to remove heat during the summer. I have yet to install it, but it seems to spin quite fast. I felt it would work a lot better than just one or two plain air vents. Heat builds up fast in a black trailer. I only purchased one, but would recommend two or more for larger trailers. This is solar powered so once it's installed the Sun does all the work...

by:

Ordered to replace my worn out solar vent fan. Quick shipping!

A year later and the vent is still performing as expected. Haven’t had an odor in the unit since I installed this vent

by:

seems to work as described. Does take a fairly bright sky to work...but not necessarily direct sun. As an FYI, fan was not on shaft when arrived. After I figured it went on with the embossed arrow showing rotation so that it could be seen, I firmly pushed it on the shaft but it was noisy when spinning. I pulled it back just a tiny bit and it ran noiselessly. Installation went smoothly. I did have to cut about 2 inched off vent pipe so the the fan did not hit the pipe. I also removed the 3 screws to separate the base from top (fan and solar panel) to make the base easier to install then reattached after base was fully installed.

by:

The low profile of the vent met my immediate needs. You cannot hear the fan running so unless I climb up on top it's a matter of faith. You cannot turn it off either. While it may be ideal for a backyard shed it's not a real improvement over a standard rv vent. No regrets on buying it but probably wouldn't buy another.

by:

They work great thank you.

by:

Found these at the local trailer place, except they were way overpriced!
I replaced the entire roof with metal roofing and these were the only ones that would fit between the ribs.
Haven't installed yet, but the customer service so far has been TOP NOTCH! with extremely quick shipping and great follow up to ensure my satisfaction.
Recommend this site, keep up the great work!

by:

I put this on my Trailer where i store my scuba equipment, needed to let the moisture out, works great. Will probably order a second one for volume because of the size of the trailer. An added benefit is it functions as a skylight and lets in Light as well.

by:

Great idea, poor quality. Worked fine for about a month before it began making spinning noises. Obvious that fan was becoming loose on it's axis, possibly from cheaply designed mount. Lasted about another 6 weeks before it stopped working completely.

These should not be a disposable item, and climbing a ladder every 2 1/2 months to change a vent is not an option.

I would NOT reccommend this

by:

Pros: Well made, good ventilation. Cons: Take a very bright light to make it go. It will only work on a clear day with direct sunlight.

Jim W.

I am amending my review. After further testing I found it does work with overcast skies. 5 stars.

by:

Mixed review, bought two of these, installed them both on my enclosed trailer, to help vent it. One of them stopped working a month later.

by:

Works great. Circulates the air to keep moisture out and cut down on any moldy problems. Put a screen under it to prevent bugs.

  • Recommended Replacemetn Plumbing Vents For A 2013 Keystone Montana 3150RL 5th Wheel Trailer
I'm assuming you're referring to plumbing vents so I would recommend the Camco Replace-All RV Plumbing Vent Kit -Black # CAM40138 or # CAM40033 for white. Both of these kits come with mounting hardware and putty to form a tight seal to your trailer's roof, but you'll also want to use some self-leveling sealant # 34427034145-1 as well. I've attached a video below of the installation I did for the Ultra-Fab Solar-Powered Plumbing Vent # UF53-945001 to give you a better idea of how installation...

  • What Size Pipe is the Cyclone RV Vent Designed to Fit
The Cyclone part # CAM40595 is designed to mount to 1-1/2 inch diameter pipes. If that is what you have on your trailer this would work well. If you need something bigger the solar paneled # UF53-945001 would be a great option as well.

  • Where is the Ultra-Fab Solar-Powered Plumbing Vent Made
The Ultra-Fab Solar-Powered Plumbing Vent # UF53-945001 is manufactured in China. This is currently the only powered plumbing vent carry. I have linked a video review of the vent for you.

  • CFM of Ultra-Fab Solar Powered Plumbing Vent UF53-945001
The Ultra-Fab Solar-Powered Plumbing Vent # UF53-945001 is designed to provide a continuous (as long as the sun is out) low-level draw on an RV plumbing vent over the waste water tank. It does not carry a specific CFM rating as the motor unit is very small. The fan generates a slight amount of air pressure, hardly enough to feel, but for the purpose it's designed for it would work just fine. The fan includes installation hardware, but I'd recommend using # 0160297 silicone sealant between...

  • Recommended Solar Fans for Built Up Heat in a Cargo Trailer
We have the Ultra-Fab Solar-Powered Plumbing Vent for Motor Homes - 7" Diameter x 3-3/4" Tall # UF53-945001 which is designed to be mounted on the roof. My recommendation is to use this roof vent and allow your side vents to stay as they are. This fan will allow the hot air that rises to be forced out to cool down your trailer and allow you to draw air through the side vent locations.

  • Installing Vent in 6x12 Enclosed Cargo Trailer To Keep Interior Cool When in Storage
The # UF53-945001 solar-powered plumbing vent probably won't do what you're looking to achieve. The vent is very low powered, and is designed to provide a small amount of ventilation to draw odors from the stack on a black water tank on an RV. It wouldn't have enough draw to do much to lower the temperature in your trailer. I'd recommend installing a vent cover like # MA00-933066 which is compatible with standard 14 x 14 roof vents. With this in place, you could leave existing roof vent...

  • Installation and Air Volume Capacity of Ultra-Fab Solar-Powered Plumbing Vent Cap # UF53-945001
According to my technical contact at Ultra-Fab their Solar-Powered Plumbing Vent Cap # UF53-945001 is intended to provide a continuous low-level vacuum on an RV plumbing vent. It does not carry a specific cubic-feet-per-minute (CFM) rating as the motor unit employed is fairly modest in size. The fan generates a moderate air pressure only; you will not feel the air flow with your hand, for example, even when the fan is operating. This unit installs by securing its mounting flange with the...

I have a solution for you, it is a smaller fan unit but we have an item that will function in the way you are looking for. The MaxxFan Mini Plus Manual RV Roof Vent, # MA00-03851 that you linked to needs a fairly stable power supply of 12 VDC and draws slightly less than 2 amps to operate. Wiring directly to solar panel will not support this as the power will fluctuate greatly and eventually damage the electronics in the in the fan. When it comes to a vent that can be installed above your shower, I have two options for you. One being the Ultra-Fab Solar-Powered Plumbing Vent, # UF53-945001, and the other, a standard roof vent like the Ventline Ventadome Trailer Roof Vent, # V2092SP-28. The Ultra-Fab Solar-Powered Plumbing Vent, # UF53-945001, is a solar powered unit so it does not actually wire into the electrical system of the trailer and may help to pull moisture out of your trailer. • Roof Vent With Fan Compatible with Roof Rack on Teardrop Trailer
The Ultra-Fab Solar-Powered Plumbing Vent for Motor Homes - 7" Diameter x 3-3/4" Tall # UF53-945001 may be a good option for you. The fan will only work when you have solar charge which can work even on a cloudy day, but obviously would be covered if you had something on the roof rack obstructing it. The Ventline Vanair Trailer Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan - 6-1/4" Diameter - Smoke # VP-543SP is a great option if you will instead be using 12V power and it will still fit under the roof rack...

  • What is the CFM of Ultra-Fab Mini Solar Plumbing Vent
I contacted Ultra-Fab about the Solar Powered Plumbing Vent # UF53-945001 and they couldn't provide an exact CFM. They were able to tell me that it is very low. The blades move quite slow to the point where it doesn't even feel air moving. It isn't designed to be move air with any force.

The Ultra-Fab Solar-Powered Plumbing Vent for Motor Homes - 7" Diameter x 3-3/4" Tall # UF53-945001 although designed for roof use can be used on the side wall. The Ultra-Fab Solar-Powered Plumbing Vent # UF53-945001 is a good option for applications needing a small amount of air displacement like RVs or motorhomes. According to my contact at Ultra-Fab, these will only work with sunlight and won't receive power from any type of interior lighting. Unfortunately, we don't have any other solar-powered options that would work for your application. We do indeed have a nice selection of roof vents that will work great above the shower of your converted Sprinter RV. Because the vent will sit above the shower you need a unit that doesn't have/use power. If you have a 14 inch by 14 inch Ventline roof vent on your trailer already a better solution would be to go with a powered unit with a fan like the part # V2094SP-28 to replace what you currently have as the part # UF53-945001 can not be installed in place of it. The fan of the # UF53-945001 will only be turning during the day when there is sunlight. But air can still travel in and out of the vent when the fan isn't turning. The solar panel of the vent will not store power. I attached a review video for this for you to check out as well.

  • Can a Rheostat be Used to Control Voltage to Ventline Vanair Trailer Roof Vent
You could use a rheostat to control the electric motor in Ventline fan # VP-543SP. It is designed as an on/off device but I don't see a reason that it couldn't be controlled. You may end up with that buzzing sound that occurs when electric motors are not getting the voltage they need. That could end up being louder and more annoying than the fan. The solar powered van, # UF53-945001, might be a better option. It would be quieter but wouldn't move as much air.
