Brake controller recommendations for a 2024 BMW x7

Updated 05/14/2026 | Published 05/05/2026

Question:

We have a 2024 BMW X7 with the towing package that we want to pull our couples camper with. Its been towed by a pickup with integrated controller past few years, this is my first time needing a brake controller since we first got the camper to tow with our Grand Cherokee used a Tekonsha. I was all set to get the Redarc Liberty and do the plug into the secretinch connect in the factory harness with the universal pigtail. But then I saw the Tow Pro Link, seems like the perfect fit - I dont have to dig into the dash, the remot can be removed and stowed or I can just use the app with CarPlay to boot. Any BMW folks using it already with success? Think Id like to figure out trailer mirrors as well but might see what I wind up with all these cameras first.

You're absolutely right Guy, this is exactly what I would recommend.

For a BMW X7 specifically, the Redarc Tow-Pro Link # RED57AR solves a lot of the things people try to avoid with traditional brake controllers:

No drilling into the dash
No permanent knob mounted in the interior
Cleaner OEM-style appearance
Easy removal/storage when not towing

Since your X7 already has the factory tow package, you’re starting with the ideal platform for it. The Tow-Pro Link is designed to install with the factory 7-way harness as a plug and play setup.

The Apple CarPlay integration is honestly one of the biggest advantages in a vehicle like the X7. REDARC specifically built the Link so when you're adjusting settings so it feels natural.

A couple things I’d advise:

Keep the USB remote in the vehicle even if you plan to use the app most of the time
Do a short tow test before a longer trip
If your camper has electric over hydraulic brakes, verify settings during setup

How often do you tow the camper; weekends or long-distance trips several times a year?

I’m using this Redarc brake controller on a 2026 Nissan Frontier Pickup and it works great hauling a 2 axle utility trailer. The install was easy and the Bluetooth controller works flawlessly.

Thank James! I went with the Tow Pro Link. It wasn't working at first but working with Redarc Support (fabulous!) we figured out I had a 12V power problem. Found the fuse was blown, replaced it, works great. Towed the camper to the shop, included some highway time at 70 MPH and this brake controller is fantastic. Completely natural feeling, I actually turned the gain down from where I usually had it set with the pickups so I think it does a better job with proportional braking. The CarPlay app is great to make adjustments without looking down for the remote. I need to play around with the mounting for the sensor but where I have it now seems to work well. Great piece of kit, highly recommend!

@GuyF That’s great feedback and we really appreciate you coming back to share. Good to hear Redarc helped get the 12V issue sorted out and yes, the CarPlay setup really does make adjustments easy too. Thanks again for the update and safe travels!
