Does Roof Track End Cap Need To Be Removed To Install Rhino Rack Y02-490B-NT

Updated 05/05/2026 | Published 04/30/2026

Question:

I have ordered Y02-480B-NT to fit on my Leer 100XL, with factory installed Thule tracks. Is it necessary to remove the track end caps to install hardware or is there hardware nuts to fit track without removing the track end caps and possible voiding install warranty?

Hey Mike!

No, you shouldn't need to remove the endcaps of your Thule tracks to install the Rhino-Rack Roof Rack # Y02-490B-NT. If you look at the installation video I've attached, around the 5 minute mark you can see AJ slide the Rhino Rack feet into the slot of the tracks without removing anything from the tracks themselves. This is done via t-nuts that are included with the Rhino Rack system. Did you get those in your kit? They should slide right into the opening on the ends of the roof tracks. If you lost them, they are the # RRT-FK1.

As far as warranty, you won't void any warranty by removing the end caps on these systems. That said, normally you don't need to remove the track's end caps.

If I misunderstood you in anyway, let me know and I'll clarify :). What do you plan to haul on the system?

Hello Mike, I have the same Leer topper with Thule tracks and didn't have to remove the end caps.
