Question:

I have a 23 GMC Sierra 2500hd that has the optic top and 7 prong bottom. when I use a 4 to 7 prong adapter to hook my trailer up with I am getting nothing and I have tried different adapters and the trailer lights work with the adapter on a 03 Chevy and another jeep any suggestions on what the problem is?

Hey Anita, welcome back! The newer GM trucks, like your 2023 GMC Sierra 2500, have a power management system that regulates the amount of voltage sent through the 7-way connector. This causes all sorts of issues with cameras, trailers with LED lights, and adapters.

The 7-Way to 4-Way/5-Way Trailer Adapter for Vehicles with Lamp-Out Sensors Towing Trailers with LEDs item # C35FR has been a reliable solution to solving issues like yours. It has load resistors built in which allows/tricks your truck into thinking a trailer is connected that draws more amperage.

What adapter are you currently using and does your trailer have LEDs?

Someone else posted on that plug that is doesn't work with their 2025 Chevy 2500 hd which mine is a 2023 gmc 2500 HD so if it doesn't work on theirs it won't work on mine as 2020 and up on the 2500 hd are the same
