I would be happy to Derek! Thank you so much for all the pictures and information!
Since your Work and Play Toy Hauler has Dexter 6,000 lbs EZ Lube Axles, I recommend the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly item # K08-201-9B and the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brakes item # 23-458-459.
The Hub and Drum item # K08-201-9B is the top of the line replacement hub. It offers superior rust protection, cooling, and overall durability. You can see the ridges in the product picture attached below. This hub is sold individually and comes pregreased. It includes bearings, races, grease seal, grease cap, wheel bolts, and lug nuts.
The Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brakes item # 23-458-459 are going to be identical replacements for the ones that came stock on your trailer. With new shoes you'll notice a quicker response under braking and you'll easily get another 10 years of life out of these. They're sold as a pair so you'll need one set per axle.
We don't get many specific requests to address heat build up. Do you do any towing through the mountains?

I put these on my PJ car hauler trailer. The day they were installed I loaded a one tone Chevy onto the trailer and pulled it 400+ miles through so steel Moutains. Whenever I stopped i would check everything out to make sure there were no issues. Not once did I ever feel anything getting warm even let alone hot. I’ve hauled several ton of hay on the same trailer since through the same Moutains without any issues. I have this same set up on my living quarters horse trailer no complaints. That’s a heavy trailer especially when loaded with horses on top of your living quarters stuff. One thing I find do with the horse trailer because I didn’t know about at the time was I didn’t burnish the breaks which they still done their job but when applying the breaks it was a bit rough. That’s nothing to do with the product it was something i didn’t do that they tell you to do. My buddy got everything back on track for with them. I do it immediately with the car hauler and huge difference i haven’t had to touch the brakes since.they make a some cheaper hubs and breaks I’ve bought them and used them they worked but didn’t last very long at all spending the few extra dollars is well worth it.
