Question:

I just got my BandW hitch. I am trying to determine pivot arm height. Can you help me. I have a GMC 2020 2500. Short bed. What king pin do I have? I will be towing Brinkley z2700.

Hey Steve,

I just want to make sure I’m understanding your question correctly. Are you looking to set the pivot arm height on your B&W Companion # BWRVK3500? If so, that will come down to a couple quick measurements.

To find the right height for your fifth-wheel hitch, you’ll want to measure from the ground to the bottom of the king pin, and then from the ground to the top of your truck bed. From there, subtract the bed height from the king pin height to get the correct hitch height setting.

The B&W Companion # BWRVK3500 has an adjustable height range of 16-1/4" to 18-1/4", measured from the truck bed up to the hitch head.

As for your question about the king pin or pin box, you’ll want to check for a label directly on the pin box itself. Brinkley has used a few different options, especially on newer models. If you don’t see any markings like Rhino Box or Curt Helux, You can reply with the LCI number that will be on the pin box or reach out to Brinkley to confirm that for you.

When are you planning to pick up the camper?

Steve, I bought the same B&W Companion that you bought, using it for my 34 foot 5th wheel. I have a 2016 GMC Denali 2500, so I ended up choosing the medium height and medium forward settings when it came time to choose the pivot arm height. Once I did that, I tried it out with my 5th wheel and it was the right height. Hope this helps! Tom
