Question:

I’d like to put this on a trailer to wench about 200lbs of gear. Would 60ah get me a few loads/unloads/day? Is there a way I can use this through my 7pin light harnesss on the truck?

Hey Jake! For a 200 lb load you’re well within what that # e98988 is built for, so a 60 Ah battery should handle a few load/unload cycles per day pretty comfortably. I would consider that more of a minimum if you’ve got any incline or drag. However, you don't want to run the winch directly off the 7-way. That circuit is really just for maintaining a battery, not powering a high-draw load like a winch.

The best setup is using your battery on the trailer. If you want to charge it off the truck while driving you can add a DC-DC charger like the Victron Orion-Tr Smart Isolated DC-DC Charger # VN56RR. This will take the truck’s charge line and properly boost/regulate it so your trailer battery actually gets charged instead of just maintained like a standard 7-way 12V circuit.

What kind of gear will you be pulling with the winch?
