How to Wire in Bulldog Winch Kit Remote part # BDW15008

Question:
Handheld unit has two top wires,red-right,black-left. Bottom wires are red-left and black-right. Does it matter if the top wires go to the motor,or to the battery?

The two sets of wires on the remote of the Bulldog winch kit part # BDW15008 are two different lengths which helps identify where they need to go. The 6 foot long leads go to the battery and the 4 foot leads go to the motor of the winch. See attached picture. You cannot wire the winch and battery the opposite way.
