Recommended Hitch for a 2026 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid Max Platinum

Updated 03/30/2026 | Published 03/25/2026

Question:

I have a 2026 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid Max Platinum without the tow hitch. Looking for a a hitch with 5,000 towing capacity that won’t interfere with the hatch kick sensor. There is a review for a hybrid limited that states that the sensor no longer works. Also would like a wiring harness for the lights. The T connector has a review answer that says it’s only for vehicles with the tow package already installed. I am towing UHaul trailers, and also will use it for a bike rack.

Congrats on the new SUV Jose! To add a hitch to your 2026 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid Max Platinum, I recommend our etrailer item # e69ZV. It has a 2" receiver with a 5,000 lbs towing capacity. It comes with all necessary hardware to complete the installation.

We have actually installed the etrailer Hitch item # e69ZV on a 2026 Grand Highlander and tested the kick sensor and it worked just fine. I linked the installation video below and if you skip ahead to the 2:21 mark you'll see it demonstrated.

I checked with Curt and they have their T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector item # C56RV as fitting all models of the 2026 Grand Highlander including the ones without the tow package. The factory connector you'll need to find is located underneath the rear cup holder on the driver's side as shown in the pictures below. This 4-Way connector will work great with a U-Haul trailer to power the lighting functions.

To verify your 2026 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid Max Platinum has the factory connector for the Curt item # C56RV, I recommend removing the cup holder and seeing if there is a white connector. We've also installed this connector and I added the video below.

What kind of bike rack and bikes do you have?
