Will Curt Channel-Mount Coupler Have Space Behind Coupler on Top Brand Trailer

Updated 03/31/2026 | Published 03/23/2026

Question:

Top Brand is the manufacturer. G.V.W. IS 9990lbs. Year of build is 2007. 18’ deck over with 3’ beaver tail. Concern or problem / coupler on trailer is like your part number C25328. Coupler moves up and down with bolts torked to 250 lbs. Also coupler has about 1/2” of clearance between it and the face of the 3” channel. My question is if I purchase a new C25328 from your facility will it correct the void there is currently between the cuppler and the channel. The cuppler that came on the trailer when I purchased it the other day is not manufactured in this country. It is from China. Thank you Tim

Hi Tim; I don't have a way of knowing if there will be a gap behind the # C25328 in your channel. However, I can tell you that the distance from the mounting holes on center to the back of the coupler is 7/8". You can measure on your channel to see if the 1/2" gap will still be there once installed.

I replaced my original coupler with this one from curt. There were interference issues with the channel on the trailer. The corners of the channel were rounded such that the coupler would not slide back far enough to line up the bolt holes. I had to grind the corners of the coupler to give it space to fit. I’m happy with the coupler functionality.
