Weight Distribution Recommendation for Chevy Colorado Towing Boat Trailer

Updated 03/24/2026 | Published 03/22/2026

Question:

Hi. Im looking at possibly getting a weight distribution hitch for towing my boat. In total the boat and trailer combined probably weighs between 2500-3000 lbs max with gear and full fuel. The truck is a 2018 Colorado ZR2 V6. It has upgraded Deaver leaf springs and peak coilovers/shocks. Overall the truck now weighs 6200 lbs. It tows it fine but with the added weight it has from all the gear, bumpers tent, etc. Id like to get every advantage I can get. Especially considering the combined payload/tongue weight and over long road trips. I was looking into the Eualizer hitch Part Number: EQ37040ET on your website. What is your recommendation? I can send pictures of the truck and boat together for reference if needed. Thank you

Hey Garrett, the best way to pick out a weight distribution system will be to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the trailer as it's ready to tow. The part # EQ37040ET most likely is what you'd need though as it has a tongue weight range of up to 400 lbs and your trailer is 3k max. As long as those numbers are accurate this would be what you'd want to go with.

Since boat trailers have pole tongues you'd also need the pole tongue adapter part # EQ95-02-5950 as well.

What kind of boat do you have?
