Question:

Hi. I’m looking for recommendations for a bike rack and trailer hitch combo for a 2012 Prius V. The rack needs to be for two bikes. The bikes are not electric but I would like a rack strong enough for electric bikes if I decide to get one in the future. The current bikes are mountain, road and city bikes. Some are carbon and some have front and rear fenders.

Hey Dave! Starting with a hitch I recommend the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch # 306-X7192. It is the only option for your vehicle that comes with a 2" receiver. This is important because you want a bike rack for potential e-bikes, and most are designed around a 2" receiver to have a high enough capacity.

The EcoHitch will allow you to use the Hollywood Racks Destination E Bike Rack # HLY66ZR you were looking at. This is a great all around option, and one I highly recommend. The clamps allow you to hold your bikes by the seat post so it is great for carbon fiber as well as future e-bikes which tend to have step-through designs. It also includes a ramp so you're totally e-bike future proof as long as you keep them under 70 lbs each.

I am not familiar with the hitch for the Prius. The one I installed on the Ford Escape installed fairly easily, though I should have followed instructions. I ended up having to order another hardware kit and start again, two of the frame holes didn't align with the hitch and I had to drill the frame. The Hollywood Destination E Rack is designed to hold two 70lb bicycles and rides very securely. It installs easily into the hitch. The ramp works perfectly for getting the bicycles on and off. I am very happy with this purchase.

I have at least 10,000 miles hauling 2 70lb Soul Ebikes one of them the cuda model ND to Fl several times ND to Arizona Great bike rack Not one bit of trouble II did buy the add on light kit Well worth it Mike

We own 2 ebikes=a Giant roade and an Aventon Level2. Both weigh about 50 pounds with accessories-over 100 lbs total. The Destination rack is perfect-I drive a Honda Passport. The roll on ramp allows my wife to put bikes on and off with ease. The clamps on rods hold the frames, straps hold the bottom of the wheels. Very secure. I have people looking at the rack all the time as it is so well built. Worth the higher cost! (By the way, don't ride an ebike-you will buy one!)
