Which Convert-A-Ball Is Best for 2003 Ram 2500 Flatbed Long Bed With Recessed Ball

Updated 03/19/2026 | Published 03/16/2026

Question:

I tow a keystone avalanche 5th wheel with a 2003 ram 2500 longbed. Im current running the pullrite 2600 system. I just switched my truck to a flatbed with a recessed ball. Im wanting to buy a king to goose adapter. Two Im interested in are the part number CAB-C5G and the CAB-C5GX1216. Im unsure which one will work best with my application. Thank you.

Hey Kris! Since you have the long bed clearance won't be a major issue. The Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter # CAB-C5G without the offset is going to be the best option for your setup between the two.

Another option would be to use the Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter for Recessed Ball # DM8550046. The Recon will have better ride quality compared to the Convert-A-Ball. It also gives you the option to tow other 5th wheel trailers since the adapter is on the vehicle side, not attached to the trailer.

Where are you headed with the Avalanche once you get the truck set up?

I bought the one your talking about CAB-C5G and I’ve had no problem with it. First time towed it 11 hours and had no problem. It recommended this over the other you’re talking about. It takes up no bed space and stays on your camper till your ready next. Super easy to install aswell.
