Using A Patriot Hitch 11" Drop Hitch Adapter To Level A Tow Bar For Flat Towing

Updated 03/16/2026 | Published 03/13/2026

Question:

We have a 2025 Wraith 35F motorhome tow capacity 10,000 pounds distance from ground to hitch receiver center is about 26 inches. The hitch receiver is 2 1/2 inches X 2 1/2 inches. We want to tow our 2025 Maverick Lariat Hybrid approximately 5000 pounds. We have an installed Demco baseplate and are using our Roadmaster Nighthawk towbar and the appropriate adapters. Distance from ground to center of the towbar arm receivers is about 14 inches. The towbar stem is 2 inches X 2 inches. We have a 2 1/2 inch to 2 inch reducer. We also have the light diode kit, battery charge wire, and Demco Air Force One installed. As you can see, the height difference between the Wraith and the Maverick is about 12 inches. Our current high-low adapter has a maximum of about 8 inches, giving us a fairly significant angle when we pull the Maverick. Will the Patriot Hitch 2 Inch Adjustable Hitch Adapter - 11 Inch Rise/ - 10,000 Pounds work for this application? I realize we are still 1 inch from being totally level, but I understand we can be plus/minus 3 inches and still be within tolerance. And will the anti-rattle bolts work to help keep the hitch adapter from moving around as much, even with what we are towing and on these wonderfulinch USA roads? Thank you for your assist.

Hello Debbie, thanks for reaching out. Yes, the Patriot Hitches 2" Adjustable Hitch Adapter # PH48PR can work for your setup. The 11" rise should get you very close to level, and being about 1 inch off still keeps you well within the typical 3" range that most flat tow setups allow.

One thing to keep in mind is that this adapter fits a 2" receiver, so since your Wraith uses a 2-1/2" receiver you will still need to use your reducer sleeve. The built-in anti-rattle bolts on the Patriot adapter do a good job of tightening the connection and reducing movement between the shank and receiver, which helps cut down on the play you are currently noticing over rough roads.

Overall the 10,000 lb rating is plenty for towing the Maverick, and getting the tow bar closer to level will help the NightHawk and Air Force One system operate more smoothly. I still think the Gen-Y ball mount I mentioned earlier is a more solid, robust solution that will work for flat towing and trailer towing, but if you are looking to cut costs, the Patriot Hitch will work great.
