When do Trailer Leaf Springs Need to be Replaced

Updated 03/08/2026 | Published 03/06/2026

Question:

Hi Tommy I thought of a question on a unrelated matter. I have a 2012 montana fifth wheel. Is there a certain time period the springs should be replaced? These are the original springs on a mor ryde lre rubber shear springs suspension with 7000 Lb steel springs. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hey Donnie, leaf springs typically wear out by mileage and not by age. If they haven't been used much they are going to be just fine but if they are looking flat and worn out then it's time to replace them. Since we know the axle capacity the only other piece of info we need is the length of the springs. Keep in mind that you would want to go with a spring that is slightly shorter than what you measure since they stretch over time.

The most common replacement length we offer is the part # TRU52FR which is 25-1/4 inches long.

What length spring do you have? Measure without a load on it.
